The short version
You trust us with something precious — your family's photos and stories. We use them for exactly one thing: making your books. We never sell your data, never share it with advertisers, and do not train our own AI models on your photos or stories.
What we collect
Account details (name, email), the family-tree information you and your invited members provide (names, relationships, profile questionnaires, memorial context), uploaded photos, and order information (shipping address, purchase details, and payment status). Stripe collects and processes your payment card details.
How we use it
To operate your family account, generate illustrated characters and book pages (photos and profile text are sent to our AI processing partners through OpenRouter and Runware. Depending on the selected route, underlying providers include xAI, OpenAI, Google, and Luma), to print and ship orders (files go to our print partner, Lulu), and to send transactional email (invitations, book-ready notices, receipts, tracking).
Launch campaign cookie
During our September 9 launch, we use a first-party cookie to remember which campaign and sample-book ad brought you here. It contains only those two labels and expires at the end of the launch window. If you start checkout before it expires, we save the labels with the checkout and payment records to understand which ads led to orders. This does not send your family's details, photos, or story to an advertiser.
Optional feedback
If you choose to tell us why you paused or had trouble ordering, we save the reason and your written feedback as submitted, along with the step, time, your account and book, and the order when relevant. We also attach an available launch campaign label. Only our platform administrators can read these responses. We do not send them to advertisers. A local browser preference remembers when you dismiss or submit a feedback prompt; your written response is not stored in that preference. Please leave out private family and payment details.
Children
One Big Family is for adults. Accounts are created by parents and adult family members; children appear only as story subjects, added by their own family. We collect no information directly from children.
Invited members
When you invite a relative, we email them on your behalf. What they add (photos, profile details, character feedback) is visible to your family account's admins and used in your books. Members can edit their own profiles. Removal can be restricted when content is needed for a purchased edition or a book in progress; contact us for help with these requests.
Retention & deletion
Your family tree persists so future editions stay one click away. Removing an eligible profile revokes access immediately and queues its photos and character assets for deletion; interrupted storage cleanup is retried. Purchased editions preserve the approved book for fulfillment and reorders, so removing a profile does not alter books already purchased or delivered. Contact us for account deletion and requests involving purchased editions. Order records may need to be retained for accounting and fulfillment.
